The Red Sea Jazz Festival is proud to host a unique summit of four leading Israeli pianists – Yonathan Avishai, Omri Mor, Omer Klein and Tom Oren. In a special festival production, the four piano knights will share one stage and two pianos for an evening of improvised harmony and a 176-key showcase of eight hands. Divided into three, their performance encompasses a solo part for each artist to express his own touch and skill at the piano, a duo chapter playing in pairs piano to piano, and the height of the show as all four musicians share the stage sitting shoulder to shoulder at both pianos playing eight hands with 40 fingers.
The participating pianists were carefully selected representing the finest Israeli musicians at the forefront of international jazz scene. Featuring a minimalistic approach and a great love for swing, blues and the improvisation realms, Yonathan Avishai, a member of the acclaimed jazz band of trumpeter Avishai Cohen released his recent album at ECM International and received the discovery of the year title in 2017 by the prestigious French Jazz Magazine. Incorporating jazz virtuosity with a burning passion for Andalusian and North African music, Omri Mor, previously a soloist with the major Israeli Arabo-Andalusian Orchestra and currently a member of star bassist Avisai Cohen’s jazz trio, performed last summer in Eilat with the release of his debut album. Fusing his Mediterranean childhood landscapes into sophisticated updated contemporary piano jazz, Omer Klein, winner of the 2018 German Grammy Award (ECHO) is known as one of the top jazz musicians whose music has no boundaries. Tom Oren, the youngest of them all (25), graduated with a full scholarship from the Berklee School of Music, winner of the prestigious 2018 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and a current member of the Eli Degibri Quartet, his piano playing is both captivating and uplifting.
Four outstanding pianists meeting for the first time on stage in a spontaneous performance of improvisation that redefines the range and depth of the piano. A marvelous celebration for both jazz and piano fans and a memorable musical event.
