The Red Sea Jazz Festival is proud to host again this winter the dynamic Non Standard project of the Jerusalem Yellow Submarine music-culture center. Embracing a new artist every time, the Non Standard project creates an exciting new jazz outfit for familiar tunes through an inspiring musical rendezvous. Established over a decade ago, the Non Standard project has collaborated with a great many artists including Alon Olearchick, Rickie Lee Jones, Maor Cohen, Amal Murkus, Keren Ann, Yonatan Razel, Sheila Jordan, Efrat Gosh, Yoni Rechter, Mira Awad, Avishai Cohen, Ravid Kahalani, Tamar Eisenman, Mika Karni, Chuck Israeles, Shlomi Shaban, and more.
And now, collaborating with singer songwriter Ester Rada, a spectacular performer who is both creative and innovative. Five years ago, when she performed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, a music agent had noticed her talent marking the beginning of her international career. Between the gigantic festivals in France, a club in Mauritius, the Olympics in Brazil and Glastonbury, Ester Rada (33) has accumulated an impressive mileage on the best stages on five continents. She even had the honor to warm up for Sting. Everywhere she goes, Rada receives enthusiastic media coverage focusing on the Israeli musician who takes traditional music from home and creates a new, lively, contemporary and refreshing style.
She has already released two successful albums featuring her own original material, and one of them reached a gold status. Rada’s performance is an ecstatic journey into her musical world, a unique blend of soul, jazz, R&B, electronic and world music, complemented by her singular vocal ability and mesmerizing stage presence. Noting her captivating charisma and her distinct voice that injects emotion into every word, music critic Yossi Hersonski concludes, “this voice is not merely a facade, it comes directly from the soul.” As every great singer, Rada appreciates the company of a skillful and reliable big band to back her up. We can expect a thrilling one-time encounter and a perfectly tailored jazz suit that makes her shine even brighter.
