Notable saxophonist and great jazz musician, Kenny Garrett arrives for the second time at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, seven years since his previous performance. Garrett, known as one of the virtuoso saxophonists in modern jazz who accompanied Miles Davis and joined the Duke Ellington Orchestra at the start of his career, brings to the stage an upbeat and sweeping performance together with his acclaimed quintet.
Since 1984 and the official launch of his recording career, Garrett has become known as one of the leading jazz musicians in his field whose performances around the world attract a large audience. He is hailed for his absolute mastery of the jazz, blues and R&B, and the phenomenal ability to dance a crowd of thousands in a sweeping groove while at the same time reaching deep into the hearts with his brilliantly precise saxophone playing that touches the soul. A Grammy Award winner (and 5-time nominee), winner of the German ECHO award as well as numerous other awards and titles, he also received an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Garrett began his career as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and later joined the famous Miles Davis Quintet for five years that included the one-time performance of the legendary trumpeter in Israel in the 1980s. Since then and throughout his extensive career Garrett has collaborated with a great many jazz artists such as Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Chick Corea while also exploring popular music through his collaborations with artists such as Sting, Peter Gabriel, Q-Tip and more.
Almost more than any other traditional jazz artist in the world, Kenny Garrett and his band are known for their ability to bring audiences to their feet. Wherever they play, their performance tends to uplift the soul and move the body with joy. Expect an exhilarating time with Kenny Garrett and his band or as Haaretz music correspondent Ben Shalev described their previous performance in Israel: “It was outstanding to see and hear Garrett in action, his playing so focused, so sharp, so precise, overpowering. And the most beautiful thing was the wonderful balance between the mind and the physical realms, the distinct thought and profound groove, both bursting out of Garrett’s saxophone seamlessly.”
