The 2019 summer Red Sea Jazz Festival is proud to open with the mesmerizing performance of internationally acclaimed bassist and musician, Avishai Cohen, marking the launch of his new album – ‘Arvoles’. The Avishai Cohen Trio that opened the 2015 summer RSJF program returns, introducing Avishai Cohen’s seventeenth album with pianist Elchin Shirinov, drummer Noam David, and esteemed guest musicians Shem-Tov Levi and Avi Lebovich.
Over the past two decades, bassist, singer, composer and bandleader Avishai Cohen has established a worldwide reputation as a creative musician of the highest level and one of the most successful current international Israeli artists. Over the years, he was described as “a jazz visionary of global proportions” by DownBeat magazine and was declared one of the most influential bassists of the 20th century by Bass Player magazine reflecting his distinct artistic contribution. Regularly praised by audience and critics alike, Avishai Cohen has seventeen albums to his name as a bandleader, including his new album – ‘Arvoles’ (release date: June 7, 2019).
Flutist, composer, and arranger Shem-Tov Levi whose creation has become an integral part of Israeli music classics and award-winning trombonist, arranger and composer Avi Lebovich are Avishai Cohen’s both source of inspiration and longtime friends. Complementing the trio, their outstanding performance and skill highlight Cohen’s wonderful wind instrument arrangements.
Accompanying Avishai Cohen and guest musicians on stage is pianist and composer Elchin Shirinov from Azerbaijan, an up and coming talent inspired since an early age by the greatest jazz musicians. And completing this brilliant trio is Noam David, another longtime friend, a regular musical companion to Avishai Cohen, and a fabulous drummer whose rich and unique style has contributed greatly to the Israeli music scene. The Avishai Cohen Trio and guests performance combines fresh original compositions and arrangements from the new album – ‘Arvoles’ alongside a magnificent selection of well known and loved previously released music masterpieces.
