The 7th Winter Red Sea Jazz festival invites you to warm up with a selection of remarkable artists and a rich and diverse artistic program. For six consecutive years since its establishment the winter edition of the Red Sea Jazz Festival has attracted thousands of visitors featuring exceptional leading talents from the international jazz scene. And this year as well you can expect three uplifting days of unique atmosphere, the finest music and excellent jazz from Israel and around the world.
The 2017 Winter Red Sea Jazz festival lineup include: Legendary bassists Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey featuring their joint project Bass Extremes; the gala opening concert with Yasmin Levy in a special one-time production; the famous Italian trumpeter Luca Aquino; Canadian jazz singer Térez Montcalm; a tribute to Benny Goodman’s favorite swing with the esteemed American clarinetist Oren Atkin; the prominent Israeli band Lola Marsh; the unique string quartet of the Gilad Efrat Ensemble; and the Grabowski Jazz Trio from Australia.
As well as: A wintry atmosphere jazz trio performance with Nurit Galron; A show that combines World Music and aromas of African and European culture with Natalie Wamba Barry; Israeli saxophonist Daniel Rotem; the Oded Zur quartet; and the Luz Sisters trio.
The Winter Red Sea Jazz Festival’s artistic director is Dubi Lenz, a veteran radio personality and World Music international expert who for 15 years served as head of the music department of the IDF radio station Galei Zahal. Two years ago he retired after more than 40 years of service and continues his career on 88FM with his show More Than Jazz.
For this upcoming festival, Lenz carefully picked a fine selection of artists from around the world including special collaborations incorporating various styles and influences featuring leading international artists alongside stunning local Israeli talents. Ensembles from Israel and abroad will participate in the festival this year presenting experiential musical performances throughout the three days of the 2017 Winter Red Sea Jazz Festival.
Extending the successful tradition of the RSJF summer edition with various fascinating master classes held during the 2017 Winter Red Sea Jazz Festival.
The famous RSJF jam session tradition continues with festival artists participating in open to the public jam sessions scheduled on Thursday and Friday nights at the Mike’s Place club. The Mike’s Place club is also the designated festival meeting point featuring an open stage of various jazz ensembles in the afternoon and in between scheduled festival performances.
